Machining extremely hard and hardened ferrous materials with hardness levels from 40 to 70 HRc is most cost-effective using tools made from CBN (cubic boron nitride) – the second hardest cutting material after synthetic diamond. CBN offers exceptional resistance to deformation and flank wear and is chemically stable, providing high resistance to diffusion and oxidation. Additionally, this cutting material maintains extreme hot hardness, enabling reliable performance at cutting zone temperatures ranging from 250°C to 1000°C, depending on the material.
For high-performance machining, especially of hardened materials and gray cast iron, we offer highly precise and durable indexable inserts in various geometries and cutting edge designs. When selecting inserts, it is important to consider the available machines and workpiece material properties, as well as the required surface finish.

Solid CBN indexable inserts are ideal for machining components such as brake discs, manhole covers, or rolls made from sintered steel or cast iron – particularly gray cast iron, lamellar graphite cast iron, ductile cast iron (spheroidal graphite iron), chill cast iron, or other hardened materials.
At high spindle speeds and heavy feed rates, the hardness and thermal stability of CBN deliver excellent results.
